Indian Railways have been serving the people of India with utmost pride for more than two centuries. Since the first passenger train took off from Bori Bunder to Thane in 1853, the railway in India has never looked back. It plays a major role in the development of industry and agriculture in the country. Today you can travel to any part of the country by train making an online railway reservation.
The online railway booking can be made 120 days before the date of travel. The booking opens at 8 AM and extends until 10 AM. The online booking is possible for a maximum of six passengers; however, in case of Tatkal booking, one can book for a maximum of four passengers only. Customers can buy an E-ticket or I-ticket by accessing the IRCTC website. You can book your tickets online until the final chart is prepared, which is normally 4 hours before the train’s scheduled departure. The number may include any children or senior citizens who are traveling together.
The train tickets issued can be of any of the three types: Confirmed, Reservation against Cancellation (RAC) or Waiting List (WL). The RAC and WL tickets ask for the checking of the status that may improve from the previous position time and again. If they don’t get confirmed until the preparation of final charts, RAC ticket holder will get only the seat while the WL ticket holder cannot board the reserved compartment. However, the online railway reservation helps one to book tickets well in advance and to travel comfortably to the desired destinations.
